Recent Grotesk specimen from Process Type Foundry

A six-font display grotesque by Eric Olson spanning compressed to ultra-wide cuts, drawing on wood type improvisation, phototype x-heights and Excoffon's Antique Olive Nord.

About

Eric Olson's Recent Grotesk takes a just-the-basics approach across six widths, running from Compressed through to an overstuffed Ultra Wide cut. The design draws on the ad-hoc weight and width strategies of 19th-century wood type, the high x-heights of phototype-era grotesques and the inflated forms of Roger Excoffon's Antique Olive Nord. Best suited to large-scale display work where its width extremes and full-bodied forms can operate as intended.

Classification

A display grotesque drawing on 19th-century wood type traditions and 20th-century phototype, with particular influence from Roger Excoffon's Antique Olive Nord, placing it firmly in the grotesque camp with display intent.
