About
Designed by Rui Abreu in 2016, Pathos takes a single design premise and follows it to its logical extreme, maximising serif size until the letterforms themselves must adapt, leaning left or right to accommodate the uncompromisingly thick rectangular serifs and terminals. The result is an unusual structural dynamism that gives each glyph a distinct posture while maintaining legibility in both text and headline settings. Twelve styles span six weights from Thin to Black, each with a matching italic.
Classification
Pathos is explicitly a slab serif, defined by its extreme rectangular serifs and terminals pushed to the physical limits of legibility. The design concept centres entirely on maximising serif size, placing it firmly in the slab category with an experimental, display-oriented character.
