Ramboia
R-Typography · Rui Abreu · 2025

A French Old-Style serif by Rui Abreu that wraps fluid, angle-free curves around a skeleton drawn from Jean Jannon's 17th-century type.
About
Rather than reviving Jannon directly, Ramboia uses his classical skeleton as a hidden armature and traces loose, flowing curves over it, eliminating all angularity for a smooth and relaxed result. The family runs across five weights from Regular to Black, each with a matching italic, and is also available as a variable font. The combination of Old-Style proportions and genuinely soft letterforms makes it equally suited to editorial work that needs warmth and to display settings that call for something more joyful.
Classification
Rooted in the French Old-Style tradition with a skeleton inspired by Jean Jannon's 17th-century type, though the design deliberately softens all angles into fluid curves, making it a contemporary and playful reinterpretation of the Garamond/Jannon lineage.
