About
Where ink traps were originally cut to compensate for ink spread at small sizes, AA Gothic reverses the conceit entirely: the notched forms are purely ornamental, adding a distinctive personality at large scale. Designed by Radim Peško over five years between 2014 and 2019, the family covers Latin, Cyrillic and Greek. It has appeared in headline use for Best of The Atlantic, and pairs directly with the text-intended A Gothic.
Classification
A Gothic-derived grotesque sans designed explicitly for display use, with reversed ink traps that add decorative notching to letterforms at large sizes rather than serving a functional printing purpose.
