Designed by Ksenya Samarskaya, Corsair was originally commissioned by Best Made Co. and built to replicate the idiosyncrasies of handwriting in a functional typeface. Its 2,300-plus glyphs include naturally randomised letter variants that are always active, discretionary ligatures, combinable arrows and Cyrillic isosceles alternate forms, giving set text an honest, worn-in quality without resorting to obvious distress effects. The pan-European scope covers Latin, Cyrillic and Greek, making it usable across packaging, branding and editorial contexts wherever a hand-made feel is called for.
Classification
A sans-serif with hand-drawn, informal characteristics; its organic, weathered letterforms and naturally randomised variants place it firmly in the humanist tradition rather than geometric or grotesque.
