Sutturah specimen from Rosetta

An ultrablack display typeface by Octavio Pardo that fuses gothic Fraktur, wood type and handwriting influences into a single, wilfully irreverent weight.

About

Designed by Octavio Pardo and released in 2011, the typeface sits at the intersection of tightly constructed letterforms and the loose buoyancy of lettering traditions. A single ultrablack weight is backed by extra ligatures, swashes and OpenType alternates across Latin and Cyrillic scripts. It won a TDC Certificate of Excellence and a Granshan second prize in 2012, and was named among Typographica's best of that year.

Classification

A single ultrablack display weight drawing on gothic Fraktur and high-contrast wood types, combined with lettering and handwriting influences. Its constructed yet buoyant character places it squarely in the display category rather than blackletter proper.
