About
Krana Fat is a display typeface inspired by the lettering of Finnish designer and illustrator Erkki Toukolehto. Rather than imitating his wide flat brush, it abstracts the strokes into a soft contour and lands somewhere between typography and lettering, evoking vernacular signage, hobbyist templates and engineered institutional alphabets. A prototype first ran in the award-winning 'Die Zeitschrift der Strasse' in Bremen, where condensed and wide caps were mixed for staccato headlines. The released family splits this into two fonts, A (condensed) and B (extended), each with a lowercase, designed to be mixed within a line. Two sets of compact alternate accents stack closely above the cap line for dense type or maximum-size letters per page.
