Audimat 3000 specimen from Smeltery

A DIN-derived geometric sans by Jack Usine that tempers technical rigidity with eccentric details borrowed from French amateur signage.

About

First cut in 2003 and expanded to eight styles by 2014, Audimat 3000 takes the grid-constructed logic of DIN and introduces the irregular warmth of hand-lettered French shop signs. The result sits between formal wayfinding type and something more characterful, suited to logos, magazine layouts and signage systems that need legibility without austerity. Named a Typographica favourite and Typefacts Best Of in 2014.

Classification

Grid-constructed and DIN-derived, Audimat 3000 sits squarely in the geometric/technical sans tradition, distinguished by eccentric details drawn from French vernacular signage rather than pure industrial rigour.
