Manifest Destiny
Smeltery · Jack Usine · 2004

A four-weight western display family drawn from 1950s Dell comic cover lettering, designed during the 2004 American presidential election as political commentary.
About
Inspired by the hand lettering on covers of Jace Pearson of the Texas Rangers (Dell, 1952–56), this family captures the flavour of mid-century American cowboy typography. Jack Usine designed it in 2004 with the explicit intention of satirising George W. Bush's political vision. The four styles make it usable across a range of display applications where a period western aesthetic is wanted.
Classification
A display typeface drawn in the style of American western comic lettering, inspired by 1950s Dell cowboy comics cover lettering. Its decorative, period-specific character places it firmly in the display category with a western subcategory.
