Telerysm Mono 2 specimen from Smeltery

An experimental display face by Jack Usine that forces letterforms into monospace constraints until they buckle, stretch and distort.

About

Originally released in 2004 and revised in 2008, Telerysm Mono 2 treats monospace as a form of constraint rather than a functional grid, with letters crowded, stretched and warped to fit fixed side-bearings. Two styles make up the family, which is deliberately rough and heterogeneous in character. Best suited to nightlife graphics, provocative editorial work or any context where unruly type is the point.

Classification

A display typeface built around a monospace concept taken to an extreme, where letterforms are forcibly constrained and distorted within fixed widths, making it more expressive than functional.
