Designed by Jack Usine and released in 2009, Vidange mixes the organic warmth of humanist sans-serifs with the structural logic of geometric lineals, producing a typeface the designer compares to the illegitimate offspring of Eric Gill and Paul Renner. The inconsistency is intentional, evoking amateurish hand-lettering that borrows from different typographic traditions without forcing reconciliation. Eight styles are available, giving the family enough range for display and text use.
Classification
Vidange is explicitly described as a hybrid between humanist and geometric lineal references, making it difficult to classify as purely either; the designer likens it to a mix between Gill Sans and Futura sensibilities.
