Sociotype's in-house grotesk, combining a mid-century neo-grotesque base with the systematic widths of DIN 1451 across mono, condensed, standard and extended cuts.
About
An in-house grotesk that started as two styles for Sociotype's own use and grew into a superfamily of 42 styles across three core widths plus Mono and SemiMono variants. Onsite blends the evergreen feel of a mid-20th century neo-grotesque with the industrial structure of DIN 1451 German road signage and a hint of Eurostile in its flat-bottomed alternates. Subtly flattened curves, double-point structure and almost imperceptibly flared terminals emerge at display sizes, while a stable form holds legibility for small text. Sixteen stylistic sets, 766 glyphs per style and variable fonts cover everything from single-storey a and double-storey g to circled numerals, lenticular brackets and Hangul brackets.
Classification
An in-house grotesk loosely based on Max Miedinger's Neue Haas Grotesk, with subtly squared letterforms and a system of widths inspired by DIN 1451 German road signage. A retro-futurist hint of Aldo Novarese's Eurostile sits in the flat-bottomed alternates.
