Store Norske Skriftkompani · Arve Båtevik

Arve Båtevik is the Oslo-based designer and founder of Store Norske Skriftkompani, whose practice pairs archival research into Norwegian visual history with an extensive catalogue of original typefaces.
About
Båtevik holds an MA in Art Direction and Type Design from ECAL in Lausanne, where his diploma project received the Prix David Rust, and a BA in Graphic Design from Westerdals in Oslo. His research runs from a BA thesis featuring interviews with François Rappo, Erik Spiekermann and Christian Schwartz, to 'Den Norske Bokstaven', a grant-funded investigation into Norwegian type design history. His typefaces, several of which have received Gold at the Grafill Visuelt awards, are used by clients including Louis Vuitton, The New York Times Magazine, Adobe and the Munch Museum.
Classification
This page is a designer biography rather than a single typeface; no single category applies, so display is used as a fallback given the foundry's primary output.
