Store Norske Ballong specimen from Store Norske Skriftkompani

A bold display typeface by Arve Båtevik, constructed from just five circles, producing a bubbly, rhythmic quality suited to posters and editorial headlines.

About

Built from five strictly arranged circles, this single-weight display face achieves an unlikely dynamism despite its geometric constraints. Small joins between letterforms generate rhythm across headlines, while the rounded forms shift in character depending on context, reading variously as smoke, jelly or water. Language support covers selected Western European and Nordic languages, with OpenType alternates including variant S, Z, 2 and 5 forms via a single stylistic set.

Classification

Constructed entirely from five circles, Ballong is a geometric display typeface with a bubbly, rounded character that places it firmly in the display category rather than any text-oriented tradition.
