Store Norske Eleganse specimen from Store Norske Skriftkompani

A display typeface by Arve Båtevik that revives Ehmcke's 1927 Elzevir, balancing ornamental calligraphic letterforms with a rational, contemporary structure.

About

Drawing on the legacy of Ehmcke's Elzevir, first published by Ludwig Wagner in 1927, this face reinterprets early 20th-century calligraphic tradition through measured, modern construction. The design pairs monumental, decorative capitals with fluid lowercase letterforms, and ten stylistic sets allow designers to moderate or amplify its eccentricity. Broad Latin coverage spans Western and Central European scripts through to Nordic and Sami languages.

Classification

Rooted in Ehmcke's Elzevir (1927), Eleganse blends ornamental calligraphic tradition with geometric structure, placing it firmly in the display category with a calligraphic subcategory.
