Store Norske Skriftkompani · Arve Båtevik

A Renaissance-informed serif by Arve Båtevik, drawing on Garamond, Granjon and Grandjean to produce clean, purposeful letterforms suited to book publishing and branding.
About
Designed by Arve Båtevik for Store Norske Skriftkompani, Gangster refines the intricate curves of Renaissance letterforms into digital shapes that retain historical character without nostalgia. The family includes a rich set of OpenType features covering small caps, multiple figure styles, swashes and ten stylistic sets in italic. Language support spans a broad Latin character set reaching Western and Central European, Nordic, Baltic, Celtic and Sami scripts.
Classification
Gangster draws directly from Renaissance sources including Garamond, Granjon and Grandjean, placing it firmly in the humanist serif tradition. Its distillation of complex Renaissance curves into cleaner digital forms places it close to contemporary neo-humanist interpretations of that lineage.
