About
Arve Båtevik's typeface traces its origins to photographs of lettering at Akers Mek., the Oslo shipyard founded in 1841 that grew to become Norway's largest before closing in 1982. The source material, documented around 1930–1931 by photographer Anders Beer Wilse, gives the design a direct industrial character that sits apart from conventional revivals. Language support spans Western and Northern European scripts including Nordic and Sami languages, and OpenType features include alternates, ligatures and localised forms.
Classification
Derived from workshop lettering at Aker Mekaniske Verksted circa 1930–1931, the typeface carries the functional, stencil-adjacent character of industrial signage rather than any conventional text or grotesque tradition.
