A variable geometric display typeface by Arve Båtevik, reviving and expanding the modular lettering alphabet that Norwegian industrial designer Nora Gulbrandsen devised for Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik in the 1930s.
About
Constructed from repeating modular components shaped to suggest plates and porcelain objects, the letterforms shift horizontally across a variable axis from widely spaced to near-conventional condensed configurations. The design takes Gulbrandsen's concept of 'formlek', playful experimentation with form, as its guiding principle rather than strict functional geometry. The character set covers Western European and Nordic languages including Norwegian, Danish and Swedish, with OpenType stylistic sets for alternate I, J, R and Ø forms.
