About
Based on the wider, bolder variant of Vertikal Jernskrift, the standard typeface mandated for Norwegian car number plates from 1929, this face was originally produced by two Oslo stamping workshops and used only the letters needed for vehicle classification terms. Båtevik has extended it into a complete alphabet with broad multilingual Latin support, covering languages from Afrikaans to Welsh and including Sami scripts. Developed as part of the Skrift i Oslo project, which works to revive Oslo's visual dialect through traditional sign painting, it suits branding, posters and editorial work that calls for something with genuine historical weight.
