Trans Sans specimen from Superior Type

A variable geometric sans by Matyáš Machat that spans eight weights and positions itself between contrasting formal poles — circular and squared, rigid and playful.

About

Designed by Matyáš Machat for Superior Type, Trans Sans draws on references ranging from highway signage to playful typography, using the tension between geometric and humanist tendencies as a defining feature rather than a problem to resolve. Eight styles from Thin to ExtraBold are available as static fonts or via a single variable file, with broad Latin coverage across 302 languages. Stylistic sets offer alternate letterforms and ampersands, and OpenType features include oldstyle figures, fractions and a slashed zero.

Classification

Trans Sans is a geometric sans with a variable axis spanning eight weights; its design philosophy of moving between contrasts — circular and squared forms, rhythm and order — places it firmly in the geometric sans tradition with humanist inflections.
