Originally commissioned in 2001 for The Glasgow School of Art, Hothouse takes its formal cues from Charles Rennie Mackintosh's explorations of letterforms and the geometric regularity of his architecture. The almost entirely monospaced construction sits on a square base, giving the family an unusual rigidity that suits institutional and editorial display use. The updated release from Supertype adds three weights, an extended character set, and interchangeable upper and lower case characters, and the family won a Bukvaraz award from the Association Typographique Internationale.
Classification
