Ode specimen from Supertype

A five-weight blackletter family by Martin Wenzel that softens textura's stern rigidity into something genuinely usable at text sizes.

About

Martin Wenzel's Ode takes the Gothic script (textura) as its starting point and systematically addresses the features that make traditional blackletter difficult to read: hard corners become rounded, a gentle slant loosens the upright stiffness, and unfamiliar archaic letterforms are replaced with humanist equivalents drawn from the same broad-nib pen tradition. The result retains the characteristic counter fracture of broken script whilst reading with surprising ease across five weights from Semilight to Black. It ships with 495 glyphs, ligatures, multiple figure sets and support for 135 languages.

Classification

Ode is rooted in Gothic script (textura) tradition but deliberately reworks its conventions with rounded corners, a gentle slant and humanist letterform substitutions, making it a contemporary take on blackletter rather than a strict revival.
