The Designers Foundry · Mateusz Machalski

A seven-weight display sans by Mateusz Machalski, drawing on West African vernacular lettering and futurist space-travel aesthetics for its distinctive letterforms.
About
Inspired by Bartek Sabela's book on Zambia's space programme, this typeface blends vernacular lettering Machalski encountered in Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Senegal and Mauritania with a futuristic, space-travel sensibility. Seven weights from Thin to Bold are complemented by a variable font, and many letters offer three alternate forms accessible via OpenType stylistic sets. Language support extends to Latin, Greek and Cyrillic, covering a broad range of African and European scripts.
Classification
A display sans with a distinctive character set drawing on vernacular African lettering, Arabic script influence and space-age futurist aesthetics, placing it firmly outside standard text classification and into expressive display territory.
