seriftransitional serifitalic
Morion specimen from The Designers Foundry

A transitional serif by David Einwaller, originally sketched in 2014 and substantially revised for a 2020 re-release across six weights with matching italics.

About

Six years passed between the first sketches and the 2020 re-release, which brought an extended glyph set, revised spacing and four new weights to the original two. The design sits between text and display use: tight enough to run at small sizes in print, sharp enough to hold its own at large scale. Condensed, dynamic italics give it a contemporary edge that sits comfortably against the classical proportions of the roman cuts.

Classification

The foundry explicitly describes Morion as a transitional serif typeface. Sharp details, high contrast and dynamic condensed italics confirm this classification, balancing text utility with display presence.
