Optimum Compress specimen from The Designers Foundry

A single-weight geometric blackletter drawing on 13th and 14th-century Textura traditions, built from a reduced set of constructed forms.

About

Designed by Simon of Melbourne-based Studio io, Optimum Compress reduces Textura blackletter to a minimal vocabulary of geometric shapes, giving it a sharp, contemporary edge without entirely abandoning its calligraphic roots. It is available in a single Regular weight with a glyph count of 325, covering an extensive range of Latin-based languages including most European and African scripts. Best suited to display and editorial use where a structured, futuristic take on blackletter is called for.

Classification

The foundry describes it as a futuristic blackletter built from a limited set of geometric base shapes, while retaining references to hand-drawn Textura type of the 13th and 14th century, placing it firmly in a geometric interpretation of the blackletter tradition.
