Skanaus specimen from The Designers Foundry

A single-weight serif by Daniel Gremme that draws on Lithuanian culture and architecture to produce letterforms sitting between classical convention and contemporary invention.

About

Begun during an exchange semester in Vilnius and supervised by Prof. Aušra Lisauskiene and Henning Skibbe, Skanaus exists in two optical styles: Regular and Display. The Display cut adds a set of alternates, including variant g and ß forms, alongside ligatures and fraction support. Its wild, movement-driven details make it most suited to editorial headlines, cultural identities and poster work.

Classification

Skanaus blends classical and contemporary genre traits with expressive, unconventional details that push it toward display territory; its described 'romance and movement' across the glyph set aligns with a decorative or lyrical serif sensibility.
