Architype Catalogue Soft Solid specimen from The Foundry Types

A single-weight display typeface drawn from Wim Crouwel's 1970 Stedelijk museum catalogue for a Claes Oldenburg exhibition, with soft, padded letterforms that mimic the sculptor's own aesthetic.

About

Originally cut by hand from pink paper by Crouwel to reflect Oldenburg's soft sculpture work, the typeface was digitised by The Foundry in collaboration with Crouwel following a 1996 agreement. The letterforms are built on Crouwel's characteristic strict grid but given rounded, inflated counters and edges that distinguish it sharply from his harder geometric work. A companion outline variant, Architype Catalogue Soft Outline, is available separately.

Classification

Grid-based letterforms with deliberately rounded, 'padded' outlines derived from Crouwel's experimental Stedelijk museum catalogue work; firmly display in intent with no text-weight application.
