Scatch
Tipografies · Jordi Embodas, David Montserrat · 2023

A modulated grotesque by Jordi Embodas and David Montserrat that asks what a Scotch Roman would look like without its serifs.
About
Scatch takes the high contrast, proportions and rhythm of the Scotch Roman tradition and removes the serifs, producing a sans with an unusual degree of modulation for the genre. The family runs across six weights from Thin to Black with matching italics, totalling twelve styles, and is available as a variable font. Oldstyle and lining figures, alternates, ligatures and extensive Latin language support make it well suited to editorial and text settings.
Classification
Scatch is explicitly described as a modulated grotesque derived from Scotch Roman conventions stripped of serifs, retaining the high contrast and rhythm of that genre within a sans-serif structure.
