Demur
Tofu Type · Reese Lee · 2024

A single-weight condensed sans by Reese Lee, commissioned by the Winnipeg 1919 Workers Collective and rooted in constructivist lettering traditions.
About
Designed by Reese Lee for the Winnipeg 1919 Workers Collective, Demur grew from the collective's existing logo into a full typeface. Modular construction gives the letterforms a consistent internal rhythm, while condensed proportions and tight spacing make it feel most at home in headlines, posters and zine layouts. Latin and Cyrillic coverage, alongside stylistic sets for Bulgarian and Serbian forms, extends its reach across scripts with political heritage in constructivist typography.
Classification
Classified by the foundry as a constructivist sans; features modular construction, condensed proportions and tall x-height consistent with early Soviet-era geometric lettering traditions.
