Isenheim specimen from Tunera

A serif revival by Benoît Ferran drawing on medieval type found in a Payot Lausanne publication on the Isenheim Altarpiece, extended with lombardic influences and MUFI rarities.

About

Originally conceived from a typeface found in a small illustrated book on Matthias Grünewald's Isenheim Altarpiece, the design has since evolved well beyond that source into a standalone family. It includes a substantial set of alternates, ligatures and rare MUFI characters alongside lombardic influences, giving it a richly historical character. Released under the SIL Open Font License and available as a free download from Tunera.

Classification

Described as a serif family with medieval influences, originally conceived as a revival from a type found in a book on the Isenheim Altarpiece, with lombardic influences and MUFI rarities pointing firmly to a medieval or blackletter-adjacent serif classification.
