Gustella Inline Arabic specimen from TYPE BY

An extreme reverse-contrast inline typeface supporting both Latin and Arabic scripts, the Arabic extension of Thomas Thiemich's Gustella superfamily released in December 2020.

About

Part of the Gustella superfamily alongside Solid, Stripes and Boxed variants, the Inline Arabic cut applies severe reverse contrast and inline detailing to a design with roots in nineteenth-century Western wanted-poster lettering and seventies psychedelic graphics. The Arabic extension, published in December 2020, pairs the Latin characters with a matching Arabic script, making it one of the few reverse-contrast display families to span both scripts with consistent weight and metric harmony. Four weights from Thin to Bold share identical metrics across the superfamily, allowing overprinting between variants for layered effects.

Classification

Gustella Inline Arabic is a display typeface with extreme reverse contrast, drawing on nineteenth-century Western slab serif lettering traditions and seventies graphic design. The inline treatment and high-contrast letterforms place it firmly in the decorative display category.
