Grotta specimen from Type Department

A neo-grotesque with geometric accents and tight apertures across five weights, updated in 2024 with new italic styles.

About

Grotta is a neo-grotesque designed by Due Studio, characterised by sharp contrasts, strong geometric details and tight apertures that give the family a taut, energetic quality. Five weights run from Light to Bold, each with a matching italic added or revised in a 2024 update, bringing the family to ten styles in total. A glyph set of 599 characters covers Latin Extended-A alongside OpenType features including contextual alternates, stylistic alternates and localised forms.

Classification

Described explicitly as a neo-Grotesk with geometric accents and tight apertures, placing it firmly in the neo-grotesque tradition rather than a pure geometric or humanist sans.
