displaypixel/bitmap
Pexel Grotesk specimen from Type Department

A pixel-grid typeface that maps grotesque proportions onto a strict pixel grid, with rounded edges that set it apart from typical bitmap fonts.

About

Built on a strict pixel grid, Pexel Grotesk takes the proportions and structure of traditional grotesque typefaces and renders them in pixel art form. Rounded edges distinguish it from the hard corners typical of the genre, lending it a softer character suited to both retro-themed work and contemporary digital contexts. The glyph set runs to 236 characters, covering uppercase, lowercase, diacritics, punctuation, arrows and seven custom symbols.

Classification

Pexel Grotesk is a pixel-grid display typeface that deliberately recreates grotesque proportions within bitmap constraints, placing it firmly in the display category with a pixel/bitmap subcategory rather than a conventional grotesque.
