Rumba specimen from Type-ø-tones

A three-variant display family by Laura Meseguer, structured across optical sizes rather than weights, with a calligraphic character suited to headlines and decorative settings.

About

Designed by Laura Meseguer and released to recognition at TDC 2005 and featured on Typographica's favourite typefaces of 2006, Rumba is organised into Small, Large and Extra cuts that each perform at different scales rather than varying by weight. The calligraphic forms give it warmth and rhythm, making it well suited to food, culture and editorial contexts. Its optical size structure is an unusual and considered approach for a display family.

Classification

Rumba is a display typeface with script-influenced, calligraphic character, offered in three optical size variants (Small, Large, Extra) suited to headlines and decorative use rather than continuous text.
