Sonetni Venez specimen from Type Salon

A type revival drawn from the 1834 first printing of France Prešeren's Sonetni venec, with five glyph variants per character simulating the natural variation of lead type on paper.

About

Designed for Vuk Ćosić's Nacija – Kultura project, exhibited at MG+MSUM Ljubljana, the typeface lifts its forms directly from the original 1834 newspaper printing of Prešeren's Sonetni venec. Each glyph carries five distinct variants that cycle through the line so that no two identical forms appear consecutively, capturing the impression variance of letterpress. The font was used to generate a new-age sonetni venec from Twitter posts by Slovenian politicians, tying typographic authenticity to contemporary political satire.

Classification

The letterforms are drawn from the first edition of Prešeren's Sonetni venec, published in 1834 in Ilirisches Blatt, placing this firmly in the historical revival category with a serif character consistent with early 19th-century printing types.
