Bridge Head specimen from TypeMates

A high-contrast display serif in three widths and six weights, designed for editorial headlines and poster use where intensity and graphic distinction matter.

About

Originating as a TypeMedia 2018 master project under Erik van Blokland, Paul van der Laan and Peter Verheul, Bridge Head was released by TypeMates in 2019. Its defining features are four-cornered counter shapes, voluminous terminals and monolinear strokes connecting thick verticals, giving it a graphic boldness that holds even at the lightest weights. Three widths, Regular, Extended and Condensed, across six weights from xLight to Black yield 18 styles, each designed to pair with Bridge Text for editorial and corporate typographic systems.

Classification

Bridge Head is a high-contrast display serif with wedge serifs, geometric counters and monolinear connecting strokes, designed explicitly for large-size headline use. Its expressive, graphic character places it firmly in the display serif category.
