Dockland
TypeMates · Tom Holloway · 2023

A transitional slab serif by Tom Holloway drawing on 1890s lithographic prints and blackletter construction, available in seven weights with italics and a variable axis.
About
Designed by Tom Holloway and released in 2023, Dockland takes the blocky bracketed slab as its starting point but sharpens it with angular counterforms, prominent vertical serifs and a calligraphic stroke influenced by blackletter lettering and Victorian lithography. The seven weights run from a fine Extra Light to a dense Extra Bold, each with a matching italic, and the family ships as a variable font alongside static OTF and TTF files. It covers a broad Latin glyph set including old-style and decimal figures, fractions and arrows, making it workable for publishing, branding and digital product.
Classification
TypeMates describe it as a low-contrast slab serif in a transitional style, with prominent vertical serifs, angular counterforms and calligraphic inflections drawn from blackletter and 1890s lithographic sources.
