Elma
TypeMates · Philipp Neumeyer · 2022

A two-family fixed-width system by Philipp Neumeyer that pairs a classical monospace with a three-width variant that deliberately subverts proportional type conventions.
About
Elma Mono takes the standard single-fixed-width approach, while Elma Trio operates across three fixed widths as a pointed counterargument to proportional design logic. Both families share a compact Neo Grotesque construction with broken-curve details that read as texture at small sizes and deliberate roughness at display scale. Five weights, a dynamic Italic and a sloped Slanted, over 820 glyphs per style, and Granshan Award-winning Cyrillic covering more than 270 languages make it a serious tool dressed in mischievous clothes.
Classification
Elma is a fixed-width type system built on a compact Neo Grotesque construction; both Elma Mono (single fixed width) and Elma Trio (three fixed widths) are monospaced by design, making mono the primary category.
