Gratimo Classic specimen from TypeMates

A geometric humanist sans redrawn from its display-focused sibling for reading performance, with a robust x-height and cursive italics across six weights.

About

Designed by Jakob Runge and Mona Franz at TypeMates, Gratimo Classic is the text-optimised branch of the Geometric Suite, reworking the purer geometry of Grato Classic into a practical workhorse for body copy, interfaces and signage. Open apertures, generous spacing and a compact texture carry it comfortably from small screen sizes up, with manual TrueType hinting reinforcing on-screen performance. Twelve styles include matching italics with some cursive character shapes, and the family covers more than 270 languages across Latin, Cyrillic and Greek scripts, including Vietnamese.

Classification

Described by the foundry as a geometric humanist that draws on Johnston and Gill, combining elementary geometric construction with humanist open apertures and practical legibility. Sits between pure geometry and humanist sans traditions.
