Halvar specimen from TypeMates

An 81-style grotesque system by Jakob Runge, Nils Thomsen and Lisa Fischbach, structured across three widths with multiplexed spacing and superslanted cuts for demanding corporate and interface applications.

About

Three subfamilies, Breitschrift, Mittelschrift and Engschrift, span nine weights from Hairline to Black, each available in Roman, Slanted and SuperSlanted versions, for a total of 81 styles with variable font support. A multiplexing approach keeps character widths consistent across all weights bar the SuperSlanted, making it particularly suited to interface design, annual reports and any context where text reflow or rollover animations are a concern. Extended Latin, Greek and Cyrillic coverage supports more than 190 languages, with Cyrillic and Greek developed in consultation with native-reader specialists including Ilya Ruderman and Kostas Bartsokas.

Classification

A constructed grotesque with engineering-inflected proportions, sitting firmly in the grotesque sans-serif tradition with industrial character and German naming conventions across its three width subfamilies.
