Designed by Paul Eslage in 2019, Halvar Stencil extends the Halvar family by cutting stencil gaps into its geometric, engineer-minded letterforms, producing a typeface suited to construction, signage and cross-market branding. The superfamily spans three subfamilies (Breitschrift, Mittelschrift and Engschrift) each with nine weights from Hairline to Black, and each weight is available in three gap sizes (MinGap, MidGap, MaxGap) to suit different application scales. Multiplexed character widths across all weights mean text can be reweighted in complex layouts without reflowing, and the variable font exposes weight, width and gap as independently adjustable axes.
Classification
A stencil variant of the Halvar industrial sans-serif family, constructed from circles and rectangles and explicitly positioned as a Schablonenschrift (stencil typeface) for industrial and signage applications. Classified as display due to its stencil construction and primary use at large sizes.
