Meret specimen from TypeMates

A newspaper-oriented text serif by Nils Thomsen that balances broad-nib structure with pointed-pen refinement across eight weights and matching italics.

About

Designed in 2010 and honoured in Typographica's notable typefaces of 2011, Meret is built for demanding editorial conditions: tight columns, dense leading and extended reading. Eight weights run from Extra Light to Black, with four of those pitched explicitly at text use, while vivid display styles and unpretentious italics extend its range. Five figure styles, wide small caps, case-sensitive punctuation and over 1,150 glyphs make it a thorough tool for book and magazine typography.

Classification

Meret balances broad-nib and pointed-pen influences to produce a sturdy yet refined text serif with wide x-height figures and small caps, purpose-built for newspaper and editorial typography.
