Pradell specimen from Typerepublic

A transitional serif rooted in research into 18th-century Spanish type specimens, freely inspired by the punches of Catalan punchcutter Eudald Pradell (1721–1788).

About

Designed by Andreu Balius between 1999 and 2003, the family draws on archival study of Spanish type specimens to revive the spirit of Eudald Pradell's punchcutting work. Six styles run from Roman to Bold Italic, with an extensive OpenType feature set covering small capitals, historical forms, oldstyle figures and more, making it well suited to literary and long-form editorial composition. The design was recognised with awards from ATypI, TDC and AEPD, underlining its standing as a serious contribution to book typography.

Classification

Freely inspired by 18th-century Spanish type specimens and the punches of Catalan punchcutter Eudald Pradell, placing it firmly in the transitional serif tradition with historical forms and balanced proportions characteristic of the period.
