A display typeface drawn from 16th-century inscriptional lettering on the walls of Salamanca University, first developed in 1997 for the university's signage system and comprehensively revised between 2020 and 2023.
About
Originally created for the signage of Salamanca University campus under the name Universitas Studii Salamantini, the design takes its proportions and weight from narrow monumental Roman lettering that has adorned the university's walls since the 16th century. A major revision completed in 2023 introduced lowercase letters and an extensive set of OpenType alternates, including ten stylistic sets, discretionary ligatures and ordinals. The result is a family of five weights suited to academic, cultural and heritage contexts where historical gravitas is required.
