Salvaje Display
Typozon · Cristian Vargas · 2018

A two-style display family by Cristian Vargas, inspired by the elaborate plumage and courtship rituals of Birds of Paradise, recognised by the Type Directors Club and Typographica in 2018.
About
Designed by Cristian Vargas at Typozon, Salvaje Display draws its visual logic from the Birds of Paradise, translating those creatures' extreme ornamentation into letterforms with strong presence and a rich set of OpenType alternates. The family comprises Regular and Italic, with alternate glyphs for A, E, y, Y and the ampersand alongside discretionary ligatures and case-sensitive forms. Originally released in 2018 and updated to v2.0 in 2025, it has been applied to consumer product identities, album artwork, book covers and editorial projects.
Classification
A boldly expressive display typeface with distinctive letterform alternates and a strong visual character suited to headlines and large-scale applications; the italic adds further personality, placing it firmly in the display category.
