Nimbus Sans
URW Type Foundry · URW++ Design Staff · 1999
URW's broad-coverage Helvetica analog, available in optical sizes and spanning Latin, Cyrillic, Greek and a range of non-Latin scripts.
About
Nimbus Sans was developed in 1999 as URW's contemporary interpretation of Helvetica, using URW's own font sources to capture the proportions of 1970s cold-type printing with updated digital spacing. The family spans Text, Display and Poster optical sizes, a Monospaced variant, and global editions covering Arabic, Hebrew, CJK, Thai and Devanagari. With 59 styles across extended weights and widths, it is one of the most complete Helvetica-adjacent families available commercially.
Classification
Neo-grotesque sans-serif closely modelled on Helvetica, designed as a contemporary digital interpretation. Available in Text, Display and Poster optical sizes with a Monospaced variant.
