Kicker specimen from Vectro

A layerable display typeface by Travis Kochel, originally designed for Design Week Portland, drawing on the city's neon signage tradition.

About

Conceived for Design Week Portland in 2012 and formally released between 2018 and 2022, Kicker offers seven styles including Inline, Outline, Doubleline and Thinline cuts designed to be stacked and mixed. A variable font with three independent layer axes lets users fine-tune line thicknesses across each layer independently. The design draws from Portland's neon sign culture, with a sporty sensibility layered on top to suit event branding and editorial display use.

Classification

A decorative layered display face designed for stacking multiple cuts to create inline, outline and double-inline effects; its neon sign inspiration and sporty character place it firmly in the display category.
