Canopée
VJ Type · Jérémy Schneider · 2016

A display serif by Jérémy Schneider that holds geometric, sharp serifs in deliberate tension with rounded, organic letterforms and extreme rhythmic width variation.
About
Originally released in 2016 and substantially revised to version 2.2026, Canopée pairs needle-sharp serifs with letterforms that are full and softly rounded, creating a friction the designer describes as structural rather than accidental. The rhythm is built into the width relationships between letters, tight then wide in alternation, giving the typeface an unmistakable pulse at large sizes. A rich set of OpenType alternates for A, K, M, V, W and Y, alongside ligatures and diacritics for broad Latin coverage, makes it well-suited to editorial display, poster and identity work.
Classification
Sharp, geometric serifs on organic, rounded letterforms make this a display serif with an intentional tension between rigidity and looseness. The dramatic width variation between letters and the absence of italics point firmly toward display use.
