Arrieta specimen from W Type Foundry

A serif family by Diego Aravena that reduces curves relative to Phemister's Old Style tradition, producing an angular, mechanically inflected text face across four weights.

About

Arrieta blends the mechanical discipline of punch-cutting with the stroke quality of a nib pen, arriving at a typeface that preserves the texture of Old Style serifs while deliberately avoiding curves. The family runs across eight styles: Regular, Medium, Bold and Black, each with a matching italic. Its angled character gives it a distinctive rhythm suited to editorial and identity contexts where a less conventional serif is wanted.

Classification

Arrieta draws from Alexander Phemister's Old Style series tradition but reduces curves, blending punch-cutting mechanics with nib-pen strokes into a form that sits between old-style and transitional serif territory.
