Ryman Gothic specimen from W Type Foundry

A hybrid gothic sans drawn from American wood type and Morris Fuller Benton's gothic tradition, with widened vowels to aid legibility.

About

Inspired by Edwin Allen and Morris Fuller Benton's American gothic letterforms, Ryman Gothic pairs classic gothic proportions with the higher contrast characteristic of wood type printing. Vowels are deliberately drawn wider than their consonant counterparts, easing readability in longer settings while giving the family a slightly warmer rhythm. The 18-style family spans nine weights from Thin to Heavy, each with a matching italic, and includes extended Latin, Cyrillic and Greek support alongside ligatures and arrow glyphs.

Classification

Described explicitly as combining American wood type gothic proportions with the contrast of wood types, placing it firmly in the American gothic sans tradition rather than European grotesque lineage.
